    First Full Week of School

    Falcon Families,

Thank you all for engaging in our strong slow start last week. We had some tech bumps during the week, and we were able to get things running a bit smoother by Friday.  Teachers sent out weekly emails this weekend to all families.  Please check those emails for exact directions for the weekly schedule.  ZOOM links should be posted in emails as well as on Seesaw (K-5) and Schoology pages (6-8).  The general BELL SCHEDULE starting September 14th (tomorrow) is linked here from the TOPS Website.  https://topsk8.seattleschools.org/about/bell_schedule

Please make sure to read the teachers emails to determine when your elementary student will also participate in Small group time with their teachers.  All classroom teachers will be reaching out and connecting with families through the month of September.   They will continue to send Friday weekly emails and as a school we will be hosting monthly town halls to hear from families.   More to come!

Thank you to all our families for making it to both the laptop and iPad distributions. We had approximately 135 iPads collected on Friday and are close to 90% of our students in grades 3-8 with laptops.

    Daily/Weekly Schedules:

    • As noted above is here again… The BELL SCHEDULE starting September 14th (tomorrow) is linked here from the TOPS Website.  https://topsk8.seattleschools.org/about/bell_schedule.
    • Please check teacher emails, Seesaw and Schoology pages for complete schedules and ZOOM links.
    • If you see PCP on a schedule it means your student has Specials…look for whether or not they have music, art, library or PE during that time frame!

Attendance:  Daily attendance will be taking for synchronous classes.  Student is considered present if:

    1. Logged on to class meeting – synchronous learning together.
    2. Evidence that student has logged on to Schoology/Seesaw etc.
    3. Evidence that student has worked with a Specialist/IA
    4. Asynchronous work – evidence of participation in a task or assignment.
    5. Daily interactions with teacher to acknowledge attendance (including messages, emails, phone calls or video chats)

    School Meals:

    • TOPS is a Lunch Distribution Site.  More info regarding additional sites across the district and guidelines will be coming.
    • Lunch will be available every day off Louisa (entrance to cafeteria) from 11:15 am to 1:15 pm.  It’s grab and go! You can get lunch for that day and breakfast for the next morning.

iPad Set up for K-2 Families:

    • Once you go through the set-up, numerous applications will start to download:  ZOOM, Seesaw, Schoology, etc...
    • The downloads may take more or less time depending on Wifi or internet speed.  Please be patient.
    • You will need your students:
      • Username: 1 first initial middle initial last name (no spaces).  So mine would be 1alschwentor
      • Password:  birth month birth day, so a student born on April 5 would be 0405
      • If you are having issues with username and password, please email me at alschwentor@seattleschools.org.

Linked here is another resource that may be needed.  This page can also be translated into numerous languages at the top of the page the user can select the language.

    • The iPad section will also walk you through the set up.

    New Tech Tips and Support:

Update Steps for Student SPS Devices

Please continue to do the following each weekend to support your student laptop device:

    1. Plug your device into power
    2. Turn it on
    3. Connect to the internet
    4. Restart it and have your student log in
    5. Leave it on for an hour or two to receive new software updates before logging off

It would be ideal if you could do this at least once every weekend AND also start it up as early as possible before school starts on Monday.

    Downloading ZOOM to desktop:

    • From the START menu (little waffle icon on the bottom left) click on Software Center. This is where SPS approved apps are. Click ZOOM to install.
    • Once installed click to open. Click the SETTINGS icon menu in the upper right corner. Choose VIDEO which is the second option. Choose INTEGRATED WEBCAM from the first drop down menu.

Logging into Clever and getting into other apps on LAPTOP and iPAD:

    1. Start at the SPS website > Students (tab at the top) > Student Portal
    2. Clever opens and I opened Clever by clicking on OPEN WITH ACTICE DIRECTORY
    3. Clever opens to show Web Apps.
    4. Clicked on Seesaw to open.
    5. Select other apps as appropriate. Students can log onto directly into Schoology and the Source from Clever.  The Source will require students to enter their username and password.  Schoology does not.

    Student Usernames and Passwords:

    • Usernames:  When logging onto a district computer the username is the number “1” “first initial” “middle initial” “last name” (ex: 1alschwentor).  Troubleshooting:  sometimes the username requires the @seattleschools.org at the end but typically NOT if you are logging in from an SPS computer.
    • Passwords
      • Grades K-4: birth month and day (April 10th would be 0410)
      • Grades 5-8: birth month, day and year (04102009) UNLESS your child in grades 6-8 changed their password.

    Laptops:

SPS Technology Support Webpage This webpage has a video link for signing into Seesaw as well as other district-wide support videos.

Internet Access.  There are two services that SPS is currently sponsoring:

    • Comcast Internet Essentials (for families who will have a fixed address for at least 6 months) which is installed in the home.
    • SPS Cellular Hotspots (for families with no fixed address or moving frequently) which can be picked up at select locations.
    • If you visit this SPS website it has the information on where to go and who to contact to request a hotspot/internet. https://www.seattleschools.org/district/calendars/news/what_s_new/family_resource_centers
    • The top of the SPS webpage allows you to select the language.
