    August Updates/Information: 

    Falcon Families,

    Below are some quick updates.  I know you all still have a TON of questions.  We are finalizing the remote learning schedules by Tuesday, September 1st and they will be posted by the 2nd.  As communicated by the district, we are engaging in a Strong Start with all our students from September 4th-11th.   

    • Our daily start time will be 8:30 am with students and end-time (starting September 14th) is 3 pm (M, T, Th & F).  Wednesdays expect that students will be done by 1:45 pm. 
    • September 4th-11th is our STRONG START.  Online school will start at 8:30 am and end at 10:30 am for the first week.

    First Day of School, 8:30 am start time.


    Laptop Distribution, Grades 3-8

    Directions for Laptop Pick up:

    • Please enter through the TOPS parking lot off Roanoke street.  Remain in your car in order to ensure social-distancing protocols.
    • Please tell the TOPS Staff the name and grade of the student who is picking up the laptop.
    • Complete/sign the Student 1-1 Laptop Agreement Form (You will receive this form when you arrive at TOPS).
    • Return agreement to TOPS staff in the parking lot.
    • TOPS staff will hand you a laptop, charger and information packet.
    • Laptops will be checked out to students for use through the remainder of the school year.

    Amazon Chromebooks:

    • Any family that received an Amazon Chromebook last year is encouraged and recommended to get a district device.
    • Any family in grades 3-6 that received a chromebook and would like to return it to support another family, please return it to TOPS on Tuesday with the power cord!  Thank you.  We may some K-2 families that will need devices until iPads arrive.
    • Additional guidance about wifi and internet use is coming...if you would be able to support families in your grade band with trouble-shooting tech issues, please contact Tim Ahlers at

    iPads for K-2:

    • Devices are not here yet. They are expected to arrive by Sept 8th
    • If your K-2 student does NOT have access to any device please email and we will work to get you connected until the iPads arrive. 

    TOPS Town Hall (info) Sessions:

    • These are optional information sessions for parents to ask questions regarding the start of the school year and distance learning.
    • Tuesday, September 1st, 4:00-4:45 pm, ZOOM link: +
    • Wednesday, September 2nd, 7-7:45 pm, same link as above.

    First day of school and start time:

    • The scheduled first day of school is Friday, September 4th
    • Students will participate in two hours of synchronous learning with their teachers beginning at 8:30 am, Friday.
    • K-8 students will be engaged with their teachers from 8:30-10:30 am each day from September 4-11th

    ZOOM links for class sessions will be sent to families by Thursday morning for Friday, September 4th with more schedule details.

    • The first day of preschool and Kindergarten will not change. Kindergarten will begin on Tues., Sept. 8.  Kindergarten teachers will be sending invitations to sign-up for parent meetings.

    Middle School: 

    • Middle School Schedules will be posted and uploaded to the Source/Schoology by Tuesday, September 1st
    • All Middle school students are assigned 1st period advisory with one of our core middle school teachers.  This will allow our teachers to connect with students every Monday morning, create safe spaces for students to connect with teachers, and support students with their learning.
    • Students will be assigned to PE, Art, Tech, Band/Orchestra.  Electives at this time will be semester long sessions.
    • Optional Enrichment “classes” will be available for students to opt into during lunch breaks. 


    Daily/Weekly Schedules:

    • We are taking the recommended daily times and schedules and creating learning schedules for our TOPS students.  We are almost DONE with these.  The schedules will be sent via email and posted to the Website by Wednesday, September 2nd.
    • During the typical school year, we run three different schedules:  K-3, 4-5, and 6-8.   
    • We want to ensure consistent, live (synchronous) time for core teacher contact, specialists and support as needed.  More information to come on this as we align with district recommendations and state requirements.  this link will take you to district sample remote schedules.

    Class Supply Lists:

    • Sorry for the delay in updated lists.  They will be posted Monday, August 31st
    • We will accept donations of extra supplies to share with families.  
    • Families needing supplies, please  We will ensure that all families have the supplies they need to engage in online learning!

    Learning Management Systems:

    • K-5 will utilize Seesaw. (
    • 6-8 will utilize Schoology.
    • We will be working with staff, students and parents to provide tutorials and on-going support.

    School Meals and Pandemic EBT: 

    • TOPS is a Lunch Distribution Site.  More info regarding additional sites across the district and guidelines will be coming. 
    • Linked here is the district web site for school meals. In addition, if your student qualifies for free or reduced lunch there is a link to apply for additional funds through the Pandemic EBT.


    Contributing to Families in Need:  If you are able and would like to help, first and foremost, thank you for your kind generosity.  We want to continue to support all TOPS Families.  You can help (and there is not such a thing as small help, everything counts) by sending Safeway, Kroger or Target gift cards to:
