TOPS K-8 Leadership Announcement

Dear TOPS K-8 Community,

Please join me in welcoming Madeline Benz as the principal at TOPS K-8!

Ms. Benz was selected through a formal interview process that included staff, parents, and community participation. What stood out to the TOPS interview team was her ability to build relationships with students, staff and the greater community to ensure access to and achievement of critical skills necessary for life beyond the classroom.

Ms. Benz earned a degree in Speech and Hearing Sciences from University of Washington and worked in audiology with the Children’s Institute for Learning Difference (CHILD) before joining Seattle Public Schools in 2016.  Since, Ms. Benz has served as instructional assistant, Language Arts teacher, and special education teacher and administrator. For the past five years, she has been one of the assistant principals at Jane Addams Middle School in Seattle. 

Ms. Benz will assume her duties as TOPS K-8 principal on July 1.

As Principal Schwentor transitions to her new role outside Seattle Public Schools, we will be setting up opportunities for staff, students, and families to meet with Principal Benz. We thank Principal Schwentor for her service to our district and welcome Principal Benz to TOPS K-8!
